A gameplay video
BUBBLESCAPE » Devlog
Just updated the game's page to add a gameplay no commentary video of me going through all the levels of BUBBLESCAPE, to prove that all levels can be completed even though some are hell hahaha.
So, in a way, the video serves as a guide. You are welcome.
Anyway, I'm planning to add some quality-of-life updates to the game to make it more approachable for everyone. Deep down, I do have a heart.
Things planned (but can be different or completely canceled):
- Better Level Design: I originally created all the levels by randomly placing obstacles and objects without testing or ensuring they were actually completable. Time was running out and I was running of options. Somehow, they "seem" to work, perhaps due to the chaotic nature of the bubble itself or maybe because of ligma. I will add more levels and obstacle variations. Perhaps implement a grid system so players can no longer place fans anywhere they like and guide them a bit more. Perhaps implement a hints system where you pay a couple of real-life dollars to get hints on where to place the fans (nah, they'll be free).
- Right and down fans: Right now, you can only place left and up facing fans to propel the bubble. I originally planned to have 4 directional fans but ran out of time and couldn't implement them, also, I found it interesting to just have two options and let the player figure out how the hell move the bubble to the left (pro tip: use the walls, bounce with the walls). I'm still not sure if I really want to add 4 directional fans so.. we'll see.
- Better bubble bouncing?: I don't know s*ht about physics or math, I just followed a youtube tutorial and prompted I mean, asked my "friend" how to implement certain things related to how to make the bubble fly around and bounce against walls and another bubbles. That is why the bubble behaves a bit odd when bouncing around stuff, like if it wasn't really spherical. I might spend some time improving it perhaps using the included physics system on GameMaker instead of reinventing the wheel.
- Level editor: I might spend a whole year (just kidding, maybe just a month) implementing a cool online level editor to let players torture themselves and their friends with their own levels. Not sure how to make it but I have some ideas.
- Android port: I want to play this game on the go.
- Better art: I know, the game looks horrible, my art skills aren't good I'm a coding and design first developer, drawing isn't one of my skills, but I like how silly the game looks like so, maybe I'll just throw in better sprites for the obstacles, the fans and the kid, a background and cool UI and sound effects.
That's pretty much it. Thanks for playing and expect at least 3 of these things implemented on next updates.
xoxo
